Machinability

CuNi10Fe1Mn is difficult to machine. Due to the high level of toughness of CuNi10Fe1Mn, it is unfavourable for machining, particularly in a smooth state. The alloy forms long, tough shavings so that removing the shavings often causes difficulties, and the quality of the surface attainable is thereby adversely affected.

To avoid untidy shavings it should be ensured that long shavings are run off. Machinability is improved by manganese and iron.
